By doing this, Cheh always created an anticipation for the next set-piece while the viewer enjoyed some subtle character moulding. All converge in a town, where they agree to rest for the night. I love these old type of kung fu, karate kinds of movies. .
Silver Spear easily defeats a weakened Ming, but Hai Tao rescues him. While the two escape, in comes Hai To who reveals that the owner and manager of the restaurant are actually Silver Spear and Brass Head — which explains their ability to best Hero Li in their confrontation. Our heroes are up against the baddest bunch of gangstas there is - the Qi Sha, who are introduced in the opening credits sequence: Golden Arm, Silver Spear, Iron Robe and Copper Head. Yang demands they kill Golden Arm, but when Hai Tao refuses, a man bursts from the gold cart, slashes Hai Tao, and reveals himself as Iron Feet Sun Chien. Anyway, on her way to accompany Yang and the others, Miss Leng runs into the incorrigible Iron Robe and is nearly sliced and diced by his thugs before being rescued by Sheriff Hai To Kuo Chui , a drunken master and overall bad-ass who makes short work of the men.
This is a great, acrobatic fight, especially when we get Lu Feng vs Chiang Sheng. The value lies in the characters and their different abilities but Goldy is the real star, and he is played pretty well by Lo Mang — one of the more solid venoms actors. Ming continues on his own after arguing with Leng over whether he should see a doctor; he is interested only in completing the mission. Instead, they give everyone a miss and swipe the stuff before the journey commences. Before meeting with Yang, Leng encounters Iron Robe; Hai Tao appears and defeats her attackers, though he disappears once again before she can thank him. That being said, there is nothing wrong with the picture quality and fans of kung fu will enjoy this immensely, providing you're not looking for much of a story.
There's a sloppiness to it, as though production had been very rushed and for most scenes they used the first take that came out halfway decent. Released 1980, 'The Kid With the Golden Arm' stars , The movie has a runtime of about 1 hr 26 min, and received a score of out of 100 on Metacritic, which compiled reviews from respected critics. I have seen about 5 of their movies and this is easily my favorite thus far. He is cold and ruthless, yet has a strong sense of honor and loyalty. Within this opposing band are formidable foes such as Brass Head, Silver Spear and the renowned Kid With The Golden Arm Lo Meng.
Tons of great fights, most with weapons. Hai To takes a powder before Golden Arm makes an appearance, pleased at the thought of an opportunity to face the legendary Hai To in a fight. As Leng protests, the heat revives and cures Ming, though he is ungrateful and annoyed to owe his life to Hai Tao. Finding the bodies, Hero Li — who is still pissed off about being saved by Hai To — rushes off to confront Golden Arm. The vicious Chi Sha gang announces their intention to hijack it by killing one of Yang's employees. Re-uniting the talents of all five Venoms with Wai Pak who was one of the Venoms in the original film , this is a production that relies much on the confidence of its ensemble play. This is a pretty standard way of giving each character a unique identity outside of their persona but also their physical performance.
Here we have an excellent Shaw Brothers offering from Tokyo Shock. Yang describes to his men Chi Sha's four chiefs, each of whom has mastered a style of fighting: Golden Arm , Silver Spear Lu Feng , Iron Robe , and Brass Head Yang Hsiung. Meanwhile, Yang and his men battle Brass Head, who bursts from a secret tunnel in the floor. Whatever the aforementioned qualities are, this is still dependent on action scenes without anything to successfully link them. I always found that interesting, as Kwok Choi and Lu Feng were the two alleged to have on-set issues with each other. After mortally wounding him, they are in turn defeated by Golden Arm, whose unarmed style makes him invulnerable to their attacks.
The four, along with their lackeys known as the Seven Deadly Hooks , are out the steal a shitload of gold being escorted by the Hu Wei Security Bureau. My only complaint is that this is not remastered and Celestial has yet to do so. Hai Tao duels with Golden Arm. Golden Arm promises Brass Head vengeance before leaving to catch up with his gang members that have stolen the gold. Ming is poisoned by Sand Palm before they flee. He managed to give Yang the reputation as an expert swordsman by kicking a bunch of people to death and then slashing them with swords.
I say this a lot when discussing Venoms flicks, but. This feature is not available right now. All the Venoms are on hand for this one. This flick has it all: deadly kung-fu techniques, secret kung-fu clans, exciting kung-fu missions, and lavish and flamboyant costumes. Golden Arm promises to live a quiet life of retirement and then things end. Released 1979, 'The Kid With the Golden Arm' stars , , , The movie has a runtime of about 1 hr 26 min, and received a score of out of 100 on Metacritic, which put together reviews from knowledgeable critics.
Meanwhile Hai To gets smashed drunk and starts beating up bad guys at his leisure. Meanwhile Hero Li is tangling with Silver Spear and getting his ass kicked since the Black Sand Palm is rapidly sucking his life away. The movie itself is a bit of a mess. Short Axe and Long Axe manage to track down one of the baddies and — in a wonderful display of empathy — slash his throat when he protests against torture. As Silver Spear is about to inflict an impaling blow to Short Axe, Short Axe impales Silver Spear before he dies. The choreography by usual Venoms action director Robert Tai is much more classical and dance-like than the acrobatic and prop-centered fights coming out of Golden Harvest at the time, but still makes for thrilling fights which build appropriately to the final, almost Shakespearean, confrontation.
